flex

by Kaleo on February 12, 2010

Check out these guys:  itamar burstein studio these guys have designed a series of furniture called Flex.

They call it an alternative bending process.  They remove a significant potion of the wood then replace it with a curved piece of contrasting wood.  Looks really sweet, but the woodworker in me scream, wood movement, two different species move at different rates.  But man is it a cool idea.

Kala,
I’m glad to see your back. I had wondered what happened to you. I got here from Matt’s blog. Your doing great work, I hope to see more of your designs soon. Perhaps when you get things under control, you can provide some design information and inspiration on your blog. I am really enjoying the links to other designers.

I hadn’t made it over to your blog until now, but I like it! This is a very cool chair, but it made me cringe too. Have they done anything to keep from blowing the joints apart? Mechanical fasteners? Would that make a difference?
